Allah Provides the Way

In this month of Muharram, we are reminded of several incidents when Allah rescued His believing servants. On the day of Ashura we learn that Allah parted the ocean and saved Musa (as) and his people from Firaun, who drowned in the sea. He also brought Prophet Nuh’s ark to a safe landing on Mount Judi after the floods had devastated the disbelievers.

And the month of Muharram enables us to commemorate the hijra through which Allah delivered the Prophet Muhammad (saw) from the enemies of Islam and enabled him to establish a new era in Medina for the believers.

In all these cases, Allah turned the most difficult of situations into sources of hope and victory for those who obeyed Him and put their trust in Him. Today, as we face our own numerous challenges – the unrelenting Corona virus pandemic, old and new human conflicts and humanitarian crises, droughts and wildfires in some parts of the world, and catastrophic flooding in others, let us find comfort in the stories of our Prophets who triumphed with Allah’s help. Just as He parted the sea for Musa (as), elevated Nuh (as) above the raging waters, and shielded Muhammad (saw) from his pursuers, He can open doors of goodness, help us rise above obstacles, and grant us countless mercies from sources we could not imagine.

We recall the words of our beloved Prophet (saw) to his dear friend Abu Bakr (ra) as they hid in cave after fleeing Mecca: “While they both were in the cave, he reassured his companion, ‘Do not worry; Allah is certainly with us.’So Allah sent down His serenity upon the Prophet, supported him with forces you ˹believers˺ did not see, and made the word of the disbelievers lowest, while the Word of Allah is supreme. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.” (Surah At-Tawba 9:40)

Indeed Allah is with us and in Him we place our trust – in this new Islamic year may He relieve us of all calamities, grant us ease and make us among those He loves who are the Mutawakkilin.
