Dr. Muhammad Said Alrahawan
Dr. Alrahawan is Mishkah University’s Dean of Academic Affairs for the English department, and teaches courses in Fiqh, Hadith and Quran Sciences. He was instrumental in founding the university’s undergraduate Islamic Studies program in English. In addition he has an intensive history of scholarship at one of the oldest institutions in the world, Al-Azhar University. At the age of 21, he obtained his B.A. in Islamic studies from Al-Azhar University, earning the highest score at the Faculty of Languages and Translation. He gained his M.A. in 2002 and his PhD in 2007 at Al-Azhar, both in the field of Hadith Sciences. In addition to teaching at Mishkah, he continues to train local and international students at Al-Azhar University. Dr. Rahawan specializes in Hadith Sciences, Jurisprudence and Criticism, Quran Science and Shafi’i jurisprudence.
He has authored several books on hadith including “Hadith Textual Criticism in Muslim and Modern Western Studies,” “Studies in Early Sources of the Prophet Mohammad’s Biography,” and “Hadith Terminology and Classification.” His other writings include numerous articles on Islamic sciences in international Islamic journals. Among his recent journal articles are papers that discuss the Islamic juridical view on multi-level marketing, and the Islamic perspective on euthanasia and maintaining and removing artificial life support devices.
He also regularly presents lectures on Huda TV.
Dr. Rahawan has also studied in Saudia Arabia where he received the highest Ijazah in Sahih al-Bukhari and Muwatta al-Imam Malik from Shaykh Ahmad al-Sawrati al-Hinidi (may Allah shower His mercy upon him). He received Ijazahs in the other books of Hadith including Muslim’s Sahih, Abu Dawud’s Sunan, Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah, as well as in Matn al-Ghayah wa al-Taqrib in Shafi’i Fiqh. He has also memorized the Quran and has ijazas in the recitation of several qiraat.
