Accreditation Update Summer 2025
What is Accreditation?
Academic accreditation is a certificate obtained from an independent organization that sets operational standards that when potentially met by an educational institution, that institution is certified as meeting the educational standards and stability of operation for at least one generation without experiencing closure or bankruptcy. After every 3 to 5 years, the institution is re-evaluated by the accreditation organization to ensure the continuation of the institution in meeting the operational standards before their certificate is renewed for another term.
Where does Mishkah stand in the accreditation process?
The following are the most common mandatory standards to be met and where Mishkah stands for each standard:
-
The institution’s operations are run per set policies and procedures regardless of the personnel who are running them (Mishkah meets this standard.)
-
The institution does not grant degrees in a non-reasonable short study term (Mishkah meets this standard.)
-
The institution grants degrees based on proper academic performance of graduates regardless of how much they pay. (Mishkah meets this standard.)
-
The institution’s degree programs are equivalent to similar programs in other accredited institutions. (Mishkah meets this standard.)
-
The institution’s systems are stable to ensure its educational services continues without interruption for at least one generation (Mishkah has been in service for almost 20 years.)
-
The institution’s financial reserves are sufficient to maintain its normal operations uninterrupted for at least one academic year (Mishkah completed the past 4 years in a row without falling into debt and with financial reserves that are sufficient to maintain more than 1 year of normal operation.)
As a result, Mishkah meets most of the mandatory standards. However, the following factors currently hold Mishkah from for academic accreditation:
-
The establishment of Mishkah’s library system (Creation of the books’ database is currently under process).
-
The completion of the Mishkah campus (it is currently under construction).
-
The assignment of full-time professors (currently, all professors are part-time. However, Mishkah has overcome this limitation by assigning more than one part-time professor for each study module to ensure regular offering of courses to achieve standard degree completions).
The completion of these 3 points is what remains to fulfill all mandatory standards required by the accreditation organization. Once completed, Mishkah will be able to confidently apply for academic accreditation.
Why does Mishkah need accreditation?
The main reason is to permit Mishkah to offer post-secondary degrees in other non-Islamic studies programs, such as science, law, arts, communication, and others. These other programs require that an institution be accredited to grant degrees in these programs.
However, the educational regulations in the United States allow non-accredited educational institutions to officially grant post-secondary degrees to programs that are of a religious basis. This allowance is the one Mishkah uses and has been officially permitted by the states of Florida and Texas.
Is accreditation necessary for Mishkah graduates to work or continue studies with their granted diplomas?
The answer is: it depends on the destination the graduates are interested in. Some institutions require accreditation to accept the diploma and some don’t. Therefore, it is important for the graduates to check with each institution about their regulations and if they will accept their granted diplomas. Mishkah cannot guarantee if its educational regulations will meet the requirements for every destination. Therefore, Mishkah graduates need to communicate the destination’s regulations with Mishkah so that they can be properly responded to. Please note that there are many Mishkah graduates who are accepted to work or to continue studies with their Mishkah granted diplomas.
Additionally, for some destinations accreditation means that an institution is officially existing and recognized by the official department in the United States. Therefore, for such cases, Mishkah can provide its graduates with diplomas authenticated and apostilled by the Department of State (another name for it is the U.S. Ministry of Foreign Affairs). This authentication is sufficient to prove that Mishkah is officially existing, registered and recognized to such destinations.
