About this course
A comprehensive review of Islamic pedagogy and education, including its concept, virtue, philosophy, tools, institutions, and scholars. It also highlights how excellence can be achieved in Islamic education, analyzing a number of challenges facing Islamic education, including education of Muslim children in the West, Islamization of the curriculum, and co-education. The course also covers various aspects of public speaking as a tool of teaching and conveying knowledge to others and for religious and dawah-oriented purposes. (2 credits)
About the Instructor(s)
Sh. Rizwan Ali is currently the Imam and Religious Director of the Islamic Center of Naperville. He was born and raised in Glen Ellyn, IL. He completed his bachelor’s degree from Benedictine University in Social Sciences, with a minor in Secondary Education. He earned his master’s degree from Saint Xavier University in Curriculum and Instruction. He also holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Creighton University. His dissertation focused on the experiences of Islamic school graduates in the Chicagoland area.
Sh Rizwan also has a degree in Shariah from Al Azhar University in Cairo. He is the Director of Islamic Studies at the College Preparatory School of America (CPSA) in Lombard, as well as a committee member of the ISNA Educational Forum. He also serves as a Chaplain with the Naperville Police Department.
