Placement Tests for Arabic I and Quran and Tajweed I
All students who wish to enroll in Arabic as a Second Language I or in Quran Recitation and Tajweed must take a placement test prior to registration. The test determines a student’s baseline proficiency in reading the Qur’an and understanding foundational Arabic. Results of the test are interpreted in conjunction with the student’s self-assessment regarding their Qur’anic reading abilities.
Procedures
- Students will take the Introductory Test to assess their reading and comprehension and report their results to the registrar. Access the test HERE
- A test score above 50% indicates that the student, with further support, may be admitted to Level I; a score above 80% signifies readiness for Level 1 coursework.
- If the student passes the assessment, registration is conducted manually by the Mishkah registrar.
- Students who score below 50% will not be able to enroll in Level I, but will be referred to a preparatory level focused on Arabic alphabet mastery, letter joining, and Qur’anic reading skills.
- Students of Tajweed may also be required to do an oral test – They may read slowly and without correct tajweed during the assessment; however, inability to recognize or connect Arabic letters necessitates prior preparatory instruction before attempting Tajweed I.
