Analytical Tafseer I (3 Credits)
This course is a primer on the Qur’anic Exegesis and explanation of the last part of the Qur’an (Juz’ ‘Amma) based on classical and contemporary works of Tafsir. Attention will be given to the major themes addressed in Juz’ ‘Amma of the Qur’an, as well as the historical context of the verses, reasons for revelation, and the relevant hadith literature that further clarify their meanings.
About the Instructor(s)
Rizwan Ali is currently the Imam and Religious Director of the Islamic Center of Naperville. He was born and raised in Glen Ellyn, IL. He completed his bachelor’s degree from Benedictine University in Social Sciences and a minor in Secondary Education. He completed his master’s degree from Saint Xavier University in Curriculum and Instruction. He completed his doctorate in Educational Leadership at Creighton University. His dissertation focused on the experiences of Islamic school graduates in the Chicagoland area.
He has completed a degree in Shariah from Al Azhar University in Cairo. He is also the Director of Islamic Studies at the College Preparatory School of America (CPSA) in Lombard. He is also a committee member of the ISNA Educational Forum. He also serves as a Chaplain with the Naperville Police Department. He is married and has three daughters
