Fiqh of Worship I
About this course
This is an entry-level course in Jurisprudence that examines the key and contemporary issues pertaining to the acts of worship. This course focuses on purification (Taharah), prayer (Salah) and funerals (Janazah). The main text focuses on the opinions and evidences of the Hanbali Madhab. In addition, attention will be given to all the various opinions across the major Madhahib (legal schools of thought), particularly on major issues.(3 credits)
About the Instructor(s)

Sh Abdullah Ashraf
Sh. Abdullah Ashraf is a distinguished Islamic educator, committed to academic excellence and community engagement. He holds an MA in Comparative Fiqh and a BA in Islamic Jurisprudence from the Islamic University of Madinah. He currently serves as the Imam and Religious Director at ElFarouq Islamic Center in Houston, where he leads a diverse congregation and develops educational and outreach programs. Sh. Abdullah has taught extensively as a visiting lecturer at Islamic institutions across the U.S. and the Middle East. He has also guided hundreds of pilgrims during Hajj and Umrah, serving as a spiritual advisor and translator for various organizations. Known for his ability to connect classical scholarship with contemporary community needs, he holds numerous Ijazat in Quran, Fiqh, Hadith, and Aqeedah. In addition, he has completed Level 1 & 2 Clinical Training in Couples Therapy from The Gottman Institute.
